The Canadian Alliance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Regulators (CAMLPR) works on behalf of the provincial regulatory bodies (also called Colleges) for Medical Laboratory Technologists in Canada. CAMLPR seeks expressions of interest from subject matter experts (SMEs) interested in serving as examination item developers, standard setting panel members, or members of the CAMLPR Examination Panel.
As an SME item developer, you will develop high-quality, psychometrically sound test questions (items) that assess applicant competency according to the CAMLPR Field of Practice Competency Profiles and the examination blueprint. Your role involves reviewing and crafting clear exam items that adhere to best practices in test construction while ensuring content is free from bias, culturally appropriate, and aligned with current professional standards. The time commitment is approximately 10-25 hours per examination depending on items assigned. All items remain CAMLPR's intellectual property and undergo psychometric review before they are used.
As an SME on the standard setting panel, you will establish defensible cut scores distinguishing competent from not-yet-competent candidates using evidence-based methodology. You will evaluate items, make judgments about difficulty for minimally competent candidates, participate in consensus discussions, and review candidate performance data to validate recommendations. The time commitment is approximately 2 hours of independent work and a 4-6 hour virtual meeting, with possible follow-up. The CAMLPR Board retains final decision-making authority on pass/fail standards.
As an SME on the CAMLPR Examination Panel, you will participate in a three-section review process: reviewing performance data and psychometric analysis with the psychometrician, collaborating to develop technical recommendations including discarding poor items, and contributing written recommendations on cut scores and pass/fail rates. The time commitment is a 2-3 hour virtual meeting with possible email follow-up. The CAMLPR Board retains final decision-making authority.
These opportunities are ongoing. CAMLPR will maintain a pool of interested Subject Matter Experts and may contact individuals at different times, depending on project timelines and required expertise for a current assignment.
Instructions: To express your interest, please complete the following survey which should take approximately 2-3 minutes to complete. All responses are confidential and used only for recruitment purposes.
