Thank you for your willingness to respond to the Center for the Assessment of Sign Language Interpretation (CASLI) Specialist Certificate: Legal (SC:L) Validation Survey!

In 2025, a Job Task Analysis (JTA) was conducted with a group of experts to determine the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) required for interpreting in legal settings, and to confirm that the job role and responsibilities are up-to-date since the certification's moratorium in 2016. This Validation Survey will allow us to collect critical feedback to confirm and validate the KSAs with a broader group of practitioners and stakeholders to ensure they accurately and completely represent current practice in legal interpreting for both deaf and hearing interpreters.

The results of this survey will be used to assist with the development of SC:L learning materials and the certificate examination, and to ensure that the SC:L certification process is reflective of current professional standards. In order for us to include your feedback, it is essential that you respond to all questions.

The survey should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. If you need to leave the survey for any reason, you can do so and use the same link to return to where you left off.

As a thank you for your time, participants who complete the survey may opt to enter a drawing for a $100 Visa or Mastercard gift card. Survey responses are anonymous. Entry into the drawing is optional, and contact information will be collected separately from survey responses.

If you have any additional feedback not addressed via the survey, there will be space at the end to provide your thoughts.
