About the Study

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is undertaking a comprehensive Statewide Intercity Bus Plan project to enhance intercity bus services throughout Illinois with the following goals in mind:
  • Connectivity: Identifying potential gaps in the current bus network and opportunities to enhance connectivity throughout the state.
  • Access: Expanding the existing network's coverage to explore locations for potential new stops or routes.
  • Sustainability: Exploring strategies to allow for stable service that can steadily accommodate growth in demand.
About This Survey

This is a survey about intercity travel and intercity bus service. Intercity bus service is regularly-scheduled service that travels long distances. It is different from regular bus service that you might take over short or medium distances within your community, or service that goes to a special event.

Throughout this survey, when these terms are used in questions, think of intercity travel as: “going between two separate cities or counties”. And, think of intercity buses as: “a bus used for traveling between two separate cities or counties”.
