Mental Health Inquiries: Consumer Survey

On the 21 June 2010 the Mental Health Review Tribunal (Tribunal) took over the responsibility from Magistrates for conducting mental health inquiries. A mental health inquiry, which is a requirement under the Mental Health Act 2007, is the initial independent review of a person who has been detained in a declared mental health facility.

The Mental Health and Drug & Alcohol Office (MHDAO) is funding an independent and comprehensive evaluation of the effectiveness and cost of the new mental health inquiry system under the Tribunal. Communio Pty Ltd was appointed to undertake this evaluation and as part of their work they are recording and analysing the experiences and opinions of consumers, carers and other stakeholders in relation to the new inquiry system versus the previous system.
