Call for Proposals
2026 Indiana Suicide Prevention & Awareness Summit

We are excited to launch the call for proposals for this year’s Indiana Suicide Prevention and Awareness Summit in Indianapolis! The summit will be held at the Wyndham Indianapolis West Conference Center campus on August 5th, 2026, with options for additional education and connection events on August 4th.

The committee welcomes presentations on topics related to all aspects of suicide prevention (i.e., means safety, connectedness, upstream interventions, harm reduction approaches, supporting loss and attempt survivors, the intersection of substance use, bullying, non-suicidal self-injury, trauma in efforts) and to reach all parts of our communities (LGBTQ, African American, Hispanic, and other historically marginalized groups, faith communities, youth, and other aspects of cultural humility and competence). The scheduling committee does ask that all presenters consider how they will incorporate the theme (Building Connections to Foster Thriving Communities) into their proposed session. The committee seeks proposals from a variety of perspectives (i.e., lived experience, coalition members, suicide prevention trainers, loss and attempt survivors, public health professionals, researchers) at varying levels of experience.

Breakout sessions should provide approximately 45 minutes of content and 10-15 minutes of Q&A time.

Please note the following when considering proposal abstract submission:
  • Suicide prevention in this call for proposals refers to all efforts related to understanding and preventing suicide, which could include general prevention, intervention, harm reduction, screening, risk assessment and management, treatment, and postvention.
  • We are interested in receiving proposals that include diversity, legal, and/or ethical issues related to suicide and its prevention.
  • Preference will be given to those that incorporate the summit theme in their presentations
  • Abstract submission does not guarantee inclusion in the summit.
  • Travel expenses will be the responsibility of the presenter.
  • Presentations will receive one free registration per presentation, which includes all food the day of the summit, networking opportunities, and recognition by peers and other professionals as a presenter during the day
  • All proposals and presentations should take special care to utilize safe and non-stigmatizing messaging – highlights of this are provided by the Action Alliance here. The committee reserves the right to request presentations ahead of time to ensure this – whether or not a decision of acceptance has been made
Proposals will be selected via a committee review to rate submitted proposals in the following areas:
  • Content is grounded in the research literature and clearly described
  • Session will be relevant to those working on suicide prevention and awareness initiatives within Indiana
  • Completeness of proposal abstract
  • Session appears structured and has clearly defined learning objectives
  • Proposal clearly aligns with the theme of the summit
  • Presenter has sufficient experience and knowledge of the subject matter
Audio/Visual
  • A projector and speakers will be provided for presenters.
  • Supplies such as flip charts, markers, etc. will not be provided
  • If additional equipment is needed it will be the presenter’s responsibility to supply.
