EXPLANATION OF RESEARCH

Title of Project: Investigating Current Knowledge and Management Regarding Skin Cancer in People of Color by Both Dermatology Residency Program Directors and the General Public

Principal Investigator: Ajay Kailas, UCF College of Medicine

Other Investigators: James A. Solomon, MD, PhD

Faculty Supervisor: Dr. Steven Ebert, PhD, UCF College of Medicine

You are being invited to take part in a research study. Whether you take part is up to you.

Skin cancer is becoming an epidemic in the U.S. with both melanoma patients and those with basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma dying at a rate of one per hour. Among people of color the outcomes are far worse than that of the general populations with those who are diagnosed have poorer outcomes.  This poorer outcome has been associated with delay in diagnosis due to failure of the patients and the medical community to recognize the risks of skin cancer in this population. Although the rates vary among different subpopulations of people of color, over 2 million of these individuals are at risk for skin cancer.

The research purpose is to identify what are the gaps on knowledge of the risks of skin cancer in people of color.

You will be asked to complete an anonymous survey that is estimated to take 30 minutes to complete. You may take it at anytime and anywhere where you might have internet access that is convenient to you.

You must be 18 years of age or older to take part in this research study.
