Are pieces of branded content like the fake Syrian boy hero or the fake selfie a day more, less or equally as acceptable as those motivated by commercial gain, such as the earlier baseball catch from Gillette or the bluetooth headset hoax of popping popcorn? Ads that are hoaxes are designed to trick people and are unethical. It doesn't matter if they're advertising a product or trying to raise awareness. They're equally bad in my opinion.

Hoax advertisements created to sell products are more unethical than those created to raise awareness about an issue. But both are somewhat unethical in my opinion.

Hoax advertisements created to raise awareness about an issue are ethical (just fine) in my opinion, but companies that use them to sell things are not ethical.

Hoax advertisements are just smart marketing, whether you're trying to sell something or raise awareness about an issue. Both are ethical in my opinion.
