The City of Appleton is considering submitting a response to Google’s Request for Information (RFI) on the Google Fiber for Communities experiment. The experiment is described as providing an ultra-high speed broadband fiber to the home network (up to 1 gigabit per second) in one or more trial locations in the nation. Google has stated it would provide service at a competitive price to at least 50,000 and potentially up to 500,000 people. A complete copy of the RFI is available on Google’s website at http://www.google.com/appserve/fiberrfi/. Proposals are due no later than March 26, 2010.
The public is invited to provide their feedback on a City of Appleton response during the March 8th public hearing at 5:00 PM in Committee Room 6 A/B, City Hall.
If you are unable to attend the public hearing, your feedback is also welcome by completing this brief input survey or sending written comments to the Community Development Department, 100 N. Appleton Street, Appleton, WI 54911 by Friday, March 19, 2010.
