In 2016, the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth created “20 Under 20” as part of the Global Young Leaders program. This initiative honors 20 exceptional high school students under the age of 20 who are active in their local Junior World Affairs Council clubs (JWACs). 20 Under 20 brings a spotlight to young people in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex who consistently give back to their communities and exemplify what it means to be a global citizen.
Based on JWAC educator sponsor nominations and student applications for 20 Under 20, a Council advisory panel will choose the top 20 students to represent the class of 2019. An event will be held in the late spring to recognize the 20 Under 20 class of that year and will feature a prominent keynote speaker. Students will also be recognized for their accomplishments by WACDFW to the greater North Texas community.
There are no strict eligibility requirements for 20 Under 20 but JWAC sponsors should consider nominating students who meet some of the standards listed below: 1. Been an active JWAC member for at least 2 years 2. Maintain at least a 3.0 GPA on 4.0 scale 3. Attended one International Career Day or PWC Academic WorldQuest during high school 4. Attended one WACDFW public program during high school 5. Completed at least 20 hours of community service during the year of application and can provide proof of service

All nominated students will be asked to submit a follow-up application form by 11:59 p.m.(CST), Thursday, April 4, 2019 to be considered for the program.
Based on applications for this year's 20 Under 20 Class, a Council advisory panel will choose one winner of the Global Gateway Grant, a $1,000 grant. The winner of the grant will represent what it means to be a Global Young Leader through their proven servant leadership skills, commitment to global issues, academic achievements, and participation in JWAC. The award will be presented at the 20 Under 20 recognition event in the spring.Additionally, the 2019 class of 20 Under 20 will be invited to participate in a 3-day leadership training in early June.
