2026-2027 MATEC Clinician Scholars Program Statement of Workplace Endorsement

Disclaimer: The Clinician Scholars Program is funded through the Midwest AIDS Training + Education Center (MATEC), which is a federally-funded grant program under the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (Part F). All MATEC programming, including the Clinician Scholars Program, is contingent on continued funding. We commit to notifying applicants at the earliest point possible of any funding changes that might impact the continuation of this program.
A clinician on your team is applying to the Midwest AIDS Training + Education Center (MATEC) Clinician Scholars Program. The MATEC Clinician Scholars Program is a 12-month individualized course of study designed to increase the applicant’s capacity to diagnose, treat, manage, and prevent HIV infection. Scholars will be assigned a local HIV clinical expert as a Mentor to guide them through their course of study. A local MATEC staff member will act as a Monitor to assist the Scholar in coordinating their training and preceptorship opportunities.

There is no fee to participate in the MATEC Clinician Scholars Program. However, Scholars are expected to complete certain activities during the course of the program. Applicants accepted into the Clinician Scholars Program must:
  • Be currently providing direct clinical care services in the Midwest region.
  • Complete at least 52 hours of study, which includes 40 hours of training and 12 hours of clinical preceptorship between July 1st and June 30th.
  • Must participate in the MATEC Clinician Scholars Program Immersion Institute, which serves as an orientation to the program. The Immersion Institute will be offered virtually in two full-day sessions scheduled for July 17, 2026 and August 14, 2026.
  • Present at least one patient case to their Mentor during the course of the program year.
  • Participate in at least five of the monthly sessions of the Clinician Scholars Program Collaborative Learning Series. Sessions are hosted by MATEC beginning in the Fall. All sessions are virtual, 1-hour sessions. At least three sessions must be attended live. Scholars will receive a schedule well in advance to facilitate planning.
MATEC requires applicants to obtain a Statement of Workplace Endorsement to participate in the Clinician Scholars Program. The Workplace Endorsement should be completed by the applicant’s immediate supervisor. This helps MATEC staff know that applicants will be supported by their workplace should they be accepted into the Clinician Scholars Program.

By completing this workplace endorsement, you are indicating that you will support the applicant in completing the aforementioned program requirements, which may include allowing time off from work to complete training and clinical preceptorship hours.
