2026 GET CHARGED UP PROGRAM APPLICATION Survey

Get Charged Up! is a national program that models the importance of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and Cardiac Emergency Response Plans (CERP) in schools and other youth-serving organizations.

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is the leading cause of death on school campuses and the leading cause of death in student athletes. Yet many schools and youth organizations remain underprepared to respond effectively to a cardiac emergency.

Parent Heart Watch is the only national organization solely dedicated to protecting children and young adults from sudden cardiac arrest and preventable sudden cardiac death. Our vision is to eliminate preventable deaths and disabilities caused by SCA in children and young adults.

Parent Heart Watch collaborated with the American Heart Association and Project ADAM to develop a Cardiac Emergency Response Plan (CERP) template and step-by-step implementation resources. These tools empower schools and other organizations to become truly heart-safe.

Who Can Participate:

Schools and youth-serving organizations in the continental United States (excluding Alaska and Hawaii), including:

Elementary, middle, high, or combined schools
Youth sports teams
After-school programs
Community-based youth programs

Applications must be submitted on behalf of an eligible organization by a designated representative, such as a school nurse, teacher, coach, counselor, administrator, or parent.

Please note: Schools currently participating in Project ADAM HeartSafe or another similar designation program are not eligible for Get Charged Up.

Program Milestones
Organizations accepted into the program commit to completing the following milestones:

1. Obtain administrative approval to participate in the program.
2. Participate in a one-hour webinar orientation on Cardiac Emergency Response Planning provided by Parent Heart Watch.
3. Implement a Cardiac Emergency Response Plan (CERP) using
Parent Heart Watch’s step-by-step toolkit.
4. Complete and provide documentation of all required program milestones by December 18, 2026 to earn a complimentary AED and wall cabinet from Parent Heart Watch.
5. Properly install and register the AED.
6. Include AED maintenance (battery and pad replacement) in the
organization’s budget to ensure ongoing readiness.
7. Share sudden cardiac arrest awareness and prevention information
with the organization’s community.
8. Conduct at least one (1) cardiac emergency drill within the year.

How to Apply
To apply, organizations must complete a short intake form and agree to complete the program milestones listed above. Applicants will be notified by September 25, 2026 if their application has been accepted.
