2026 UCLA/J&J Community Health Advocate Management Program (CHAMP) APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION

WHO SHOULD APPLY

The program is designed for MANAGERS and SUPERVISORS of Community Health Workers (CHWs).

In addition, those INDIVIDUALS WHO OVERSEE the managers/supervisors of CHWs are also encouraged to apply.

The program will accept up to 4 individuals from the same organization. Admission is decided by UCLA to assure that each class is representative of community based health care in terms of geographic location, urban/rural mix, size and other demographic factors.

WHO COUNTS AS A COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKER (CHW)?

CHWs are public health workers who have a deep understanding of their community. CHWs have trusting relationships with community members and provide valuable education and information about health and social services. They are connectors to better health. CHWs are commonly referred to as (but not limited to):

-Case Worker or Public Health Aide,
-Community Care Coordinator,
-Community Health Advisor/Educator/Promoter/Representative/Worker,
-Community Outreach Worker/Specialist or Neighborhood Health Advisor,
-Consejera/Animadora (counselor/organizer) or Promotor (a) de Salud (health promoter),
-Environmental Health Aide or Family Service Worker,
-HIV Peer Counselor,
-Lactation Consultant/Specialist or Maternal/Infant Health Outreach Specialist,
-Lay Health Advisor,
-Lead Abatement Education Specialist,
-Patient Navigator Peer Educator, and more.

WHO COUNTS AS A SUPERVISOR OR MANAGER OF A CHW?

Supervisors and managers of Community Health Workers (CHWs) provide guidance, oversight, coaching, and support to CHWs in delivering services to community members. These individuals may be responsible for program operations, staff supervision, performance management, training, quality improvement, and coordination of community health initiatives. Supervisors and managers of CHWs are commonly referred to as (but not limited to):


- CHW Supervisor or CHW Manager,
- Community Health Program Manager,
- Community Health Services Supervisor,
- Program Coordinator or Program Director,
- Community Outreach Manager or Outreach Supervisor,
- Population Health Manager,
- Care Coordination Supervisor or Manager,
- Health Education Supervisor or Manager,
- Public Health Program Manager,
- Patient Navigation Supervisor or Manager,
- Family Services Supervisor,
- Clinical Operations Manager overseeing CHWs,
- Community Engagement Manager or Director,
- Social Services Supervisor or Manager,
- Regional Community Health Manager, and more.

In addition, those INDIVIDUALS WHO OVERSEE the managers/supervisors of CHWs are also encouraged to apply.
PROGRAM DATES

The 2026 CHAMP program will take place two days per week (Wed & Thurs) from 9:00a.m. to 1:45p.m. (Pacific Standard Time) from October 28 through December 10, 2026, with no sessions on November 11, 25, or 26.
  • Week 1: October 28 & 29
  • Week 2: November 4 & 5
  • Week 3: November 12 (no mtg Nov. 11)
  • Week 4: November 18 & 19
  • No meetings during Thanksgiving Break
  • Week 5: December 2 & 3
  • Week 6: December 9 & 10
SESSION ABSENCES

If you're interested in applying but are concerned about potential scheduling conflicts, we still encourage you to submit an application. We are committed to supporting your participation and helping you get the most out of the program.

We understand that work, family, and personal commitments can sometimes make it difficult to attend every session. While we strongly encourage participants to attend and actively engage in all live online sessions, we recognize that occasional absences may be unavoidable.

To help you stay on track, all program sessions will be recorded and made available on UCLA BruinLearn for later viewing, allowing you to catch up at a time that works best for you.

Please note that Learning Pod sessions are not recorded. These small-group sessions take place during the final hour of each program day in breakout rooms. If you anticipate missing a Learning Pod session, please email your assigned Teaching Assistant (TA), a current UCLA Anderson MBA student, who will help ensure you stay informed and up to date with the group’s discussions and activities.
REGISTRATION FEE

The Johnson & Johnson Foundation defrays the majority of the program costs. Upon admission to the program, EACH participant is responsible for a registration fee of $750. Upon notification of acceptance into the program, an invoice for the registration fee will be emailed. Payment is due prior to the start of the program.

Note: Submitting an application does not guarantee admission. Registration fee payment is only required from applicants who receive an official admission letter from the Price Center at UCLA Anderson.
Before proceeding with this application, please be sure you are either a MANAGER and/or SUPERVISOR of Community Health Workers (CHWs).


In addition, those INDIVIDUALS WHO OVERSEE the managers/supervisors of CHWs are also eligible to apply.

All applicant(s) will be asked to provide the number CHW's, or equivalent role to CHW's, that are being managed/supervised by the applicant.
