MSFC’s Abortion Training Institute (ATI) provides medical students with an intensive weekend long in-person educational opportunity to learn about abortion and family planning from expert faculty in a small group environment using didactic and interactive sessions with self-paced hands-on training simulations. The ATI program includes values clarification, abortion in the first and second trimesters, advocacy training and a provider panel. Medical students will have the opportunity to engage with current abortion providers who have familiarity and experience with the unique challenges of providing abortion care throughout the US, including abortion restrictive and hostile states.

Only medical students attending schools located in the US are eligible to apply. Medical students attending schools in the following abortion hostile states in the US are encouraged to apply – Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, South Carolina and Florida. Priority will be given to medical students with very little or no access to abortion training on campus or offsite. Medical students who have previously attended MSFC’s Virtual Abortion Training Institute (Virtual ATI) or Reproductive Health Externship (RHE) are discouraged from applying due to your advanced level of abortion knowledge.

MSFC will provide travel reimbursement, meals and lodging for the duration of the ATI.

ATI Application Open – Monday March 2nd to Thursday April 30th, 2026
Spots Awarded – Monday May 4th, 2026
Admission is application-based and highly competitive as space is limited to 60 spots per session. All applicants will receive email notification of their application status. All sessions are mandatory and only those medical students who are available for the full duration of the ATI program schedule (Friday at 4:30pm ET to Sunday at 12pm ET) should apply to attend.
