TIAK's Legislative Development process needs your input. Please let us know what issues are important to the travel and tourism industry in Kansas as well as your local community. Your participation will tell Kansas lawmakers exactly where the travel and tourism community stands on the issues that affect the industry. Investment in workforce development and training to attract workers needed to support the tourism industry.

Continue to work with policymakers to identify long-term, adequate and sustainable funding for the promotion of tourism at the state level.

Support legislative review of tax incentives, sales tax exemptions, and tax credit statutes. Advocate for measures which generate revenue through investment in projects or initiatives that produce jobs and/or encourage visitor spending.

Support tourism enterprises such as promotion of agri-tourism and eco-tourism in Kansas, maintaining state support for KS Parks System.

Avoid legislation which is perceived to discriminate against a particular segment of travelers, which may keep them from visiting the State of Kansas.

Support the Sales Tax and Revenue (STAR) Bonds program with the participation of tourism professionals in the project review and approval process and allow for a provision that local units of government utilize Transient Guest Tax (TGT) for tourism promotion in a STAR Bond district.

Monitor the collection of the Transient Guest Tax (TGT) and sales tax by third party marketplace facilitators such as Airbnb, RVs, and state cabins and ensure it is being collected and disbursed as required.

Continued investment in transportation infrastructure so visitor movement is easy and with minimal barriers.
