Introduction

As part of its mission, the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) in partnership with the heritage community creates a statewide historic preservation plan every five years to identify what is special about Oregon and how best to preserve it for future generations. The plan addresses identifying and preserving historic places, collections, and traditional practices, educating the public about the State’s history, and building support for the organizations that curate our cultural legacy. The information provided by this survey will be used to create the 2024-2029 Oregon Historic Preservation Plan. See the current 2017-2023 Oregon Historic Preservation Plan at https://www.oregon.gov/oprd/OH/Documents/2018preservationplan.pdf.

This 18-question survey asks what your interest is in the state’s cultural resources, what issues are facing the heritage community, and what you, local communities and organizations, and government agencies can do to address them. Please add your ideas to the comment boxes.

For this survey, “cultural resources” includes historic buildings, structures, cemeteries and places, archaeological sites, traditional gathering areas and practices, and museum and archive collections.

“Heritage community” includes tribal, federal, state, and local agencies with a responsibility for cultural resources, museums, archives, cemeteries, local historical societies, non-profit organizations, and anyone with an interest in Oregon’s culture and history.

Participants will have an opportunity to enter a drawing for a free admission to the 2024 Oregon Heritage Conference at the end of the survey.

Thank you completing the survey for the 2024-2029 Oregon Historic Preservation Plan.
