2023 MMI Survey

Survey Instructions

We need your help with the 2023 Milliman Medical Index (MMI)! The MMI relies on health discipline data and input from Milliman health professionals. We would like your professional opinion on the direction and magnitude of change in health care utilization and costs, including the effect of COVID-19 and inflationary conditions on allowed claim costs.

Please spend less than five minutes to complete the survey below. When responding to the survey, please keep in mind that we are asking about health care cost trends as they relate to the MMI. Thank you!

    About the MMI
The MMI represents the total cost of health care for a hypothetical American family of four (two adults and two kids) covered under an employer-sponsored PPO health benefit program for active employees. We assume that health policy reform has had little direct impact on the MMI because the hypothetical family of four tends to be covered by a large group health plan. However, there may be indirect impacts, which is one issue this survey attempts to investigate.
1.Please provide your name for follow-up questions:
2.What is your estimation of commercial healthcare trend (including medical and Rx) from 2022 to 2023? To clarify, we are asking about trends in total allowed charges (before member cost sharing) per large group member, including both utilization and unit cost changes.
3.What are the most significant drivers of healthcare trend from 2022 to 2023 (e.g., physician shortage, inflation, insulin pricing change, others)? We will use responses to this question to inform our analysis and discussion topics for the MMI report.
