Please read the following (even though it's a lot) as some things have changed
The MPLS MadWomen Mentorship program is for women and non-binary individuals working in creative fields in the Twin Cities. We welcome participants from agency, corporate and freelance backgrounds, as well as students. We're excited to be celebrating our 5th year!
There are three big changes to the program for the upcoming year:
- All MPLS MadWomen sponsored events will be virtual for the time-being. We will reconsider this decision at the start of 2022, but are welcoming the opportunity to host more events without the budgetary constraints of in-person activities. This year we're planning mentor-only events, as well as regular (at least bi-monthly) topical events with small-group breakouts.
- We will NOT be prioritizing matches within disciplines for this year's program (Eg. only creatives for creatives, only strategists for strategists). For the last three years, over 50% of participants have chosen either multiple disciplines or "any discipline" for their match preference. We believe valuable mentorship can come from anywhere, and would encourage you to be open-minded about this as well. This doesn't mean you won't be matched with someone in your discipline, but we will not be prioritizing it.
- The program will be free for all participants this year.
If this is your first year participating in the program, here are some things to keep in mind:
- We expect mentorship pairs to meet for at least an hour a month — it will be up to you to determine if you meet virtually or in person — and that you will prioritize this time in your schedules, give each other a heads up when something interferes, and be honest if you are unable to continue the relationship instead of ghosting your partner.
- Our program is limited to the number of participating mentors, so we accept mentees on a first-come, first-served basis.
- We ask that mentors have at least five years of experience.
- You can sign up to be a mentor AND a mentee, but we will ask you to prioritize which is most important to you. We cannot guarantee you will be assigned to both.
- While we are mindful of the experience gap between mentors and mentees — we try our best to have at least a three-year gap – we cannot guarantee it and we do not ask for disclosure of anyone's age. It's possible that a mentee could be paired with a mentor who is the same age or younger if that person has more work experience!
- We try not pair people who work for the same company, but we obviously do not know your personal history. It's possible you will be paired with someone you worked with in a previous role.
- We have always tried to make new matches for participants who, for any reason, are not comfortable with their first match (or whose first match drops out of the program). We will continue to do so, but cannot guarantee a new match will be available.
Since it is likely we will not be able to match 100% of mentorship applicants, we want to make sure we don't leave anyone out! Below you will have an opportunity to sign up to be paired with another waitlisted participant. While this likely will not function as a mentor/mentee relationship, it's a great opportunity to meet someone new (or reconnect with someone you already know). We'll make the intro, and after your first meeting, it's up to you how you pursue it!
Excited to get started? Us too!
