Donna J. Stone Award

Do you know someone who works tirelessly to support families and children? What greater way to honor and show appreciation for their efforts than to nominate them for this prestigious award established in honor of Donna J. Stone, an inspiring leader in child abuse prevention!

In 1972, Donna J. Stone founded the National Committee to Prevent Child Abuse (renamed Prevent Child Abuse America in 1999), envisioning a unique partnership to end child abuse in the United States. Ms. Stone saw community engagement and volunteerism as the keys to preventing child abuse.

In memory of Ms. Stone’s invaluable contribution to the prevention of child abuse and neglect, Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina established a memorial award in her name in 1986. The award honors a person or organization who goes above and beyond to support families in their efforts to provide children with the safe, stable, nurturing environments they need in order to be successful.

Your nominee may have developed and implemented a successful prevention strategy, conducted a successful public awareness campaign, or acted as an advocate on behalf of children.

The honoree will:  receive a plaque, be profiled in our statewide newsletter, have their name added to the Donna J. Stone Memorial Award plaque on display in our office, receive special recognition on our website, a full scholarship to the Summit, and a $500.00 stipend to help support child maltreatment prevention initiatives in their community.
Parent Leadership Award

PCANC strives to recognize parent leaders who are working to support all families in their community.  Don’t miss this opportunity to honor a parent you work with who has displayed growth in leadership in our state!

All across North Carolina, parents are gaining the knowledge and skills essential to function in meaningful leadership roles. These parents represent the “parent voice” that helps shape the direction of their families, programs, and communities. In 2008, Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina established an award to honor the contributions of a person in a parenting role whose involvement in local programs expands awareness, services, and support to others in their community.

Your nominee must have shown exemplary leadership in advocacy, family support, community service, and community collaboration.

Examples of activities may include:
  • Supporting and partnering with parents within the community
  • Involvement in planning local community or state projects and services
  • Representation on advisory councils, committees, and community activities related to family support and child welfare services
  • Mentoring other parents to take leadership roles in the community
  • Involvement in evaluating programs or services
  • Working effectively with agency staff on program or policy development to strengthen services for families
The honoree will:  receive an award, be profiled in our statewide newsletter, receive special recognition on our website, a full scholarship to the Summit, and a $500.00 stipend to help support child maltreatment prevention initiatives in their community.
In addition to the two awards included in this nomination form, PCANC will present the Legislative Leadership Award during the Virtual Summit event. The Legislative Leadership Award is determined by PCANC and presented to a North Carolina legislator who demonstrates outstanding commitment to children's issues and policies that support building a safe, stable, and nurturing North Carolina.
