2021 Sylvia Jean Patterson Memorial Scholarship

Sylvia Jean Patterson was a college roommate of The 516 Foundation, Inc.'s Founder, Dr. Christina Rosenthal. After high school, Sylvia and Dr. Rosenthal both attended the University of Memphis. What began as a random assignment during sophomore year became a lifelong friendship. The memories are plentiful, and Sylvia supported Dr. Rosenthal in every single way, even being a bridesmaid in her wedding! She was a true friend, not only to Dr. Rosenthal but to others on The 516 board, members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the University of Memphis community, and to many she met near and far.
In an effort to honor her, The 516 Foundation, Inc. is giving away a one-time, $1,000 scholarship to a student who attends the University of Memphis.
The application process is simple. Complete this one-page application, and write a 150-words or less essay describing your ideal roommate using this survey link. (Be creative!)

CRITERIA: The scholarship is open to any undergraduate at the University of Memphis. There are no GPA requirements.

NOTIFICATION: The winner will be announced and notified on Thursday, August 26, 2021.
