Interested presenters are invited to submit one or more abstracts

The 2021 Great Lakes PFAS Summit will be held December 7-10 as a virtual event.  The goals of the summit are to provide the most current and reliable science and policy, facilitate information sharing, and explore current and future research topics related to PFAS.  Participants may include: local, state, and federal government officials; environmental consultants and vendors; academic researchers and students; industry managing PFAS contamination; and community organizations.

Abstract Submission Guidelines

Abstract submission deadline is 11:59 PM, June 27, 2021.
Abstract Title: Limited to 12 words.
Abstract Length: Limited to 300 words.
Presenting Author Biography: Limited to 150 words.

Presentations should be at least 30 minutes, and not more than 40 minutes, in length.  Longer presentations should be submitted as two separate presentations of equal length (e.g., Part 1 and Part 2) .

Conference sessions will include topic areas (tracks) as shown below.  Please review the topics to consider the category where your presentation would best fit.  Authors may suggest additional topics that are not on the list, but they must fit a general topic area related to PFAS.

Sessions will be hosted in Zoom.  Acceptable presentation formats are PowerPoint (.ppt) or Adobe Acrobat (.pdf).  Sessions will be recorded and made available after the event.

Authors of accepted abstracts will be notified by early September 2021.  All primary presenters will receive a complimentary Summit registration.
 
TOPIC AREAS
  • National and International Regulations: Example topics: state, federal, and international perspectives; maximum contaminant levels; surface water, soil, air, clean-up criteria; mixing zone issues; designation of PFAS as a hazardous substance; guidance documents; PFAS manufacturing restrictions.
  • Human Health and Community Involvement: Example topics: public outreach and education; public participation in regulatory affairs and site investigation; toxicology and chemistry of various compounds; exposure pathways and food source concerns (agriculture, food packaging, animals); bioaccumulation.
  • Site Investigation: Example topics: site investigation and sampling strategies; fate and transport in various media; long-term monitoring; challenges and limitations; current and developing analytical methods; fingerprinting; use of geographic information system (GIS) mapping and other software for tracking data.
  • Treatment Technology: Example topics: Current technologies being implemented at sites; research on new technologies for use in drinking water, groundwater, surface water, and soils; destructive technologies; bench and pilot studies.
  • Materials Management and Pollution Prevention: Example topics: disposal methods for spent and contaminated media; biosolid management; incineration effectiveness in destroying compounds; landfill disposal and leachate management; alternatives to PFAS use in manufacturing and assessment of toxicology; preventing PFAS exposure in other state.
