2021 UT EE Conference Proposal Submission
The Utah Society for Environmental Education is excited to announce that we are accepting proposals for our 31st Annual Environmental Education Conference this November 3-6th. This year, our conference will be held virtually and will include a pre-conference workshop, two days of keynotes and sessions, and post-conference field trips. We are accepting submissions through October 8th!
This year's theme is New Visions for Utah's EE Landscape
Over the past year and a half, there has been a tremendous shift in Utah's EE programs, including unprecedented innovation, conversations on how we can make our programs more accessible and equitable, and ideas for how we can advocate for the field of environmental education. Conference strands this year include: Creating EE Experiences for All, Elevating Collaboration & Community Engagement in EE, Advocating for EE.
2021 Strands
Creating EE Experiences for All Environmental education in principle should be for all people, regardless of their ability level, age, community or other factors. Many Utah environmental educators are developing programs that meet the needs of communities where they are at and we want to hear about this work and the best practices involved in developing these types of programs. Sessions in this strand should showcase innovative programs and projects that address barriers to accessing EE programs. In this strand, we would also like to hear about how your organization is working to make your work more equitable through your internal practices and procedures. Sessions in this strand should provide attendees with actionable steps they can take at their organizations.
Elevating Collaboration & Community Engagement in EE We can achieve amazing things in the field of environment education when we collaborate! Whether it’s strengthening the bonds of existing partnerships, or cultivating new relationships with organizations and communities, we want to hear about your successes. Sessions in this strand should highlight innovative organizational partnerships, programs that feature community engagement, and more. This is also a great session to highlight programs that connect to Utah State Board of Education standards and classroom educators and how your organization has worked to foster collaboration with schools. These sessions should provide attendees with ideas and actionable steps they can use to cultivate collaboration at their organizations.
Advocating for EE Often, as environmental educators, we may struggle with where it’s appropriate to engage in advocacy. However, to elevate the profile of EE, we need to engage in advocacy to further environmental education on the local, state and national levels. In this strand, we want to hear about the ways that you have successfully advocated for EE and the outcomes. Additionally, sessions about civics education and civic engagement are also welcome. Examples include: successful outreach to local boards of education, youth-focused projects that led to both environmental knowledge gain and civic engagement, mobilizing partners for advocacy and outreach, and more. Sessions in this strand should provide attendees with tools they can utilize at their organizations.
