Introduction

Thank you for your ongoing efforts to support our communities during a challenging time. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Compass developed new programs to deliver short-term pro bono services focused on the immediate needs of nonprofits by providing business professionals with an opportunity to support them. We are currently accepting requests from nonprofits that meet Compass' three eligibility requirements:
  • Registered IRS 501(c)3 Nonprofit
  • Does not promote religious beliefs or political parties/movements
  • Local Mission - Serves the Greater Washington community
The following short form will help us understand your organization’s needs for a consulting project. We will use this information to identify an individual with relevant experience and expertise that matches your request. If an appropriate volunteer is available, we will contact you and launch your project within 30 days of your application.

We have two options: Thought Partners and On Demand projects.

On Demand Projects
On Demand Projects address a single issue with projects for up to eight weeks. Compass connects nonprofits to a business professional with the expertise to quickly understand and address an immediate challenge with tailored recommendations. A volunteer may invite another consultant to support the project, but most nonprofits are matched with individuals. Volunteer consultants are not expected to support implementation, although many do continue to work with their client in a personal capacity after an engagement concludes.

Thought Partners
Compass connects seasoned business professionals with nonprofit leaders facing urgent decisions regarding programming, finances, strategy, governance, and more. In a confidential setting, Thought Partners provide a trusted ear for scenario planning, courses of action, and may also facilitate difficult conversations among board, staff, and leadership. Depending on a client’s needs, a Thought Partner may offer several informal calls for up to eight weeks, or schedule formal check-ins with an agenda, reading materials, etc.

Please Note: Compass continues to offer extended consulting projects in the Fall and the Spring. Through the Sorkin Center, we also offer board matching, strategic planning, and leadership support for nonprofit executive and boards. For more information, please visit our website here.
