Lockdown Procedure - Code Blue

Conditions
  • When there is an announcement through the PA system “Attention!  All personnel, this is a Code Blue!”
  • When BULK SMS is sent to the staff mobile phone: CODE BLUE LOCKDOWN
  • When there appears to be an aggressive intrusion
  • When there is any sign of armed or unarmed physical aggression, gunfire, in or around NIS premises
  • When any unauthorized visitor or intruder threatens forced entry into a classroom
  • When groups or individuals are observed behaving aggressively
  • When the Blue light is on
Continues as follows:
  •  Make for the nearest classroom, office or other safe area and go inside it
  • When inside, admit any students or staff member to that room
  • Turn off lights and equipment  
  • Lock the door
  • Keep low
  • Keep out of sight as much as possible
  • Keep under desks and tables
  • Keep away from windows
  • Keep quiet
  • Make no attempt to communicate with, or observe aggressors
  • If possible, telephone NIS Reception and announce the attack
  • If there are Fire Evacuation Alarms---- ignore it. However, evacuate if there is a physical evidence of fire or smoke.
  • Wait for the attack (drill) to be declared over by the school management or the security personnel:
    •   PA announcement: " All Clear and Safe "
    •   BULK SMS: " All Clear and Safe "
    •   The Blue light is off
