AET 2019 Call for Proposals

AET invites YOU to present at our 41st Annual National Conference, Motivation and Mindsets: Shaping Attitudes and Inspiring Learners.

AET invites professionals of all backgrounds to submit a proposal for the 41st Annual National Conference of the Association of Educational Therapists to be held in Redwood City on San Francisco Bay. This year’s conference will focus on motivation and resilience. Proposals that support the Educational Therapist’s vital role in developing self-reliant, positive mindsets in relation to the learning process are welcomed.

Presentation formats include:
1) lectures, workshop, or panel presentation sessions of three hours or ninety minutes
2) poster sessions

Proposals should support the theme Motivation and Mindsets: Shaping Attitudes and Inspiring Learners. Presentations may also address academic interventions, assessment, speech and language disorders, attention and behavioral challenges, therapeutic relationships, family dynamics, educational psychology, and other areas relevant to educational therapy.

A limited number of presentations are allotted in the schedule. Three-hour and 90-minute sessions will be scheduled on Friday afternoon, October 25 and on Saturday, October 26 in the morning and afternoon. Poster presentations will be featured during a scheduled afternoon poster session and during breaks on Friday and Saturday.
General Submission Procedures

The deadline for submission is April 1, 2019.
  • Proposals that include multiple presenters must be submitted by the Primary Presenter. It is the Primary Presenter’s responsibility to collect all the information requested for the submission process on behalf of all presenters participating in the session.
  • All presenters must register for the conference at the published registration rates.
  • A valid email must be provided for all presenters/panelists so we can contact you.
  • The Call for Presentation Proposals submission process is completely electronic.
  • After completing the online proposal form, email your Presentation Description and CV to Nancy Short n.short@aetonline.org for consideration by the Conference Proposal Selection Committee.
  • Individual presenters or the primary presenter of a panel will be notified of acceptance by May 10, 2019.
Accepted Proposals

You will be notified by May 10, 2019 as to the status of your submission.
If your presentation is accepted, you will be asked to confirm the date and time of your presentation.
You will continue to receive correspondence from the AET Conference Planning Committee via email.

For the presentation, AET provides the following:
  • Room set-up classroom style
  • Head table and podium
  • Lavalier mic
  • LCD projector with screen
  • Electronic copy of your handouts to attendees, provided they are received by August 29, 2019.
Submission Instructions

To submit a proposal, please go to the 2019 Proposal Submission form to complete the online proposal form.

Within the form you will be asked to provide the following:
  • Title of the proposed presentation
  • Brief description (75 words or less)
  • Intended audience
  • Learning Outcomes (see below)
Learning Outcomes
Presenters are required to state at least three objectives session participants will learn from your presentation. State each objective in terms of an action verb (see sample list below), preceded by the phrase “Participants will be able to…” Each outcome should be less than 20 words. These learning objectives will be included in your online submission form.

After you have completed the online proposal form, in order to finalize your submission, you will be asked to email an extended description with rationale (500 words, see detail below) and your CV to Nancy Short n.short@aetonline.org.

Your proposal submission will not be considered complete until: 1) all requested materials are received; and 2) any additional presenters or panelists have completed a short acknowledgement survey and submitted requested CVs.

Extended Presentation Description:
This description should be 500 words or less using double-spaced, 12-point font. Submit the document as an attachment to n.short@aetonline.org, with Proposal Submission in the subject line.
  • Summarize the main points, information and techniques or strategies you are presenting.

Indicate how your presentation relates to the conference theme, “Motivation and Mindsets: Shaping Attitudes and Inspiring Learners.”
  • Provide supporting background for the basis of your presentation, such as current research findings, key bibliography and/or published materials.
  • State how your presentation will benefit educational therapists, allied professionals, and/or parents.
  • Include information on your presentation format such as PowerPoint, KeyNote, Prezi, video clips, group activities, participant discussions, etc.
