EMERGING LEADER OF THE YEAR 2019

 The Phoenix Panhellenic Association (“PPA”) Emerging Leader of the Year award is presented each year to a woman that is in the process of establishing herself in her career and community experiences and that best exemplifies the National Panhellenic Conference (“NPC”) Creed, Mission and Core Values. NPC is the premier advocacy and support organization for the advancement of the sorority experience and is the foundation of the Phoenix Panhellenic Association. 
 
NPC CREED (excerpted)
We, as Fraternity Women, stand for service through the development of character inspired by the close contact and deep friendship of individual fraternity and Panhellenic life. The opportunity for wide and wise human service, through mutual respect and helpfulness, is the tenet by which we strive to live.
 
NPC MISSION
The National Panhellenic Conference is the premier advocacy and support organization for the advancement of the sorority experience.
 
NPC CORE VALUES
Friendship, leadership, service, knowledge, integrity and community.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
In order to be considered for Emerging Leader of the Year you must:
•    Be an alumna member in good standing of one of the Phoenix Panhellenic Association’s Active Member Fraternities;
•    In the process of establishing herself in her career and community involvement; and
•    Live in Arizona for at least six months between March 1, 2018 and February 28, 2019.
 
Please note that a Candidate that applies for the Emerging Leader of the Year Award may not apply for the Woman of the Year Award.
 
HOW TO APPLY
To apply for Emerging Leader of the Year, please complete the following Application and send your Resume/CV and a Letter of Support to the Alumnae Relations Chairwoman at alumnaerelations@phoenixpanhellenic.com.
 
The Application will consist of questions related to your involvement in your Member Fraternity and PPA, and questions regarding how you exemplify the NPC Creed, Mission and Core Values. 

Letter of Support
The Letter of Support is just as important as the Candidate‘s Application and her CV/Resume. Consequently, the committee encourages each Candidate to think thoughtfully about the person submitting her Letter of Support. Candidates may assist in drafting the Letter of Support, and the committee encourages all Candidates to meet with the person drafting their letter of support prior to submittal. An effective Letter of Support addresses how the Candidate exemplifies the NPC Creed, Mission and Core Values, and will include specifics about the Candidate
 
IF YOU ARE NOMINATING A CANDIDATE
We suggest that the candidate complete the following Application.  If you wish to complete the Application for her, then we suggest having another person submit a Letter of Recommendation for the candidate so you can avoid duplicative work and efforts, and have multiple people lending their support for your candidate.
 
FINALISTS
Emerging Leader of the Year finalists will be announced at the April PPA Meeting.  The Emerging Leader of the Year winner will be announced at the Celebration of Sisterhood Banquet on May 4, 2019. 

DEADLINE
The Deadline for Candidate Application Packet is March 4, 2019.
Scoring Information

The Alumnae Relations Committee members, excluding the Chairwoman, will vote on the PPA Woman of the Year candidates.  All voting will be blind.

The Application and CV/Resume will be scored together.  The Letter of Support shall be scored separately.  The Application and CV/Resume, and the Letter of Support, will be scored based on the same criteria (the NPC Creed, Mission and Core Values) and will be worth the same amount of points.  The Criteria and Maximum Possible Score are outlined below.
 
CRITERIA
Advocacy, Support, and Advancement of Sorority Experience:  How has the Candidate served her Member Fraternity and PPA?  How has the Candidate advocated for, supported or advanced her Member Fraternity and PPA?       

Development of Character:  What are the Candidate’s character strengths?  How has the Candidate shown good character and integrity?  How has the Candidate instilled the value of good character and integrity in others?                                                                                            

Inspiration and Deep Friendship:  How does the Candidate inspire others?  Has the Candidate developed deep friendships inside and outside her Member Fraternity and PPA?  If so, how does she tend to and develop those friendships? What do the Candidate’s friendships mean to her?
                                                             
Human and Community Service:  How does the Candidate serve her community?  How does the Candidate serve her family and friends?  Does the Candidate strive to live with mutual respect and helpfulness toward others?  If so, how?
                                                                                     
Professional and Volunteer Experience:  What has the Candidate achieved in her education and career?  How has the Candidate inspired others to seek achievements in their own education and career?  Does the Candidate volunteer or hold leadership positions inside or outside her Member Fraternity or PPA?  How does the Candidate lead or inspire others?
 
Discretionary Points:  Each Alumnae Relations Committee Member may award up to four (4) discretionary points.  Examples of why discretionary points may be awarded include, but are not limited to, years of service to Member Fraternity or PPA, extraordinary life experiences, and personal struggles.  If there are less than 10 Candidates for the award, then the discretionary points will be awarded globally. In other words, each voting Committee Member will only be allowed to award up to 4 discretionary points total to all Candidates. If there are 10 or more Candidates, then the maximum amount discretionary points may be awarded to each Candidate. In other words, each voting Committee Member will be allowed to award up to 4 discretionary points to each Candidate.
