Home of the Rocky Mountains, Colorado boasts 53 peaks over 14,000 feet. These "14ers" vary in degree of difficulty but one of the more accessible & rewarding hikes is of Mt. Democrat. At 14,158 feet above sea level, with a thrilling scramble to the summit, this mountain produces an unbeatable 360-degree view of the surrounding Rocky Mountains and can be conquered in 6-7 hours hiking round trip for moderately fit hikers. Although the hike takes place in July, hikers are lightly to have an exciting encounter with snow on the trail towards the peak and possibly some mountain goats as well!
Sitting just outside Breckenridge, Mt. Democrat is a perfect addition to any trip to the Colorado and the Rockies, making it easy to enjoy a plethora of adventurous opportunities in the greater Denver area. This hike is suitable for adult couples or groups, but due to the physicality required and the careful attention some parts of the path require, the minimum age for participants must be 16 years of age.
The team will leave Breckenridge early on Saturday for the Mt. Democrat trail head roughly an hour away. This beautiful and moving experience in the name of myeloma research will be followed by a special team dinner back in Breckenridge after to celebrate our accomplishments together.
