Positive Women's Network - USA Board of Directors Application 2019
General Information and Commitments
*
1.
Positive Women’s Network-USA is deeply committed to racial justice and gender justice. We believe that all of us win when those from the communities most impacted by the U.S. HIV epidemic are prioritized and centered in leadership and decision-making.
Specifically, we require that anyone who wants to be considered for a formal leadership role within PWN-USA commit to centering and uplifting leadership by women of color, especially Black, Latinx and indigenous women, women of trans experience, and low-income women living with HIV.
We further ask Board members, as national leaders of PWN-USA, to proactively commit to challenge transphobia and racism within our own communities. This includes educating ourselves about how we may be complicit in perpetuating racism and transphobia. Further, because the HIV epidemic in the U.S. disproportionately affects women of African descent, and we believe that any multiracial effort led by U.S. WLHIV must prioritize the needs and leadership of WLHIV of African descent.
I commit to:

PWN-USA applies a racial, gender equality and human rights lens to the HIV epidemic to achieve federal policies grounded in the reality of women’s lived experiences.
Our Values:
We value meaningful representation from the communities that will be most impacted by an issue or decision, taking leadership from those communities, and analyzing potential impacts holistically, especially as they will be experienced by women of color, women of trans experience, low-income women living with HIV, and women from the US South and territories.
We also value creating a supportive environment that fosters our eleven basic values: Self-Identity, Root Cause Analysis, Changing the Balance of Power, Prioritizing Impacted Communities, Sustainability, Meaningful Involvement, Allies, Herstory, Mentorship, Accountability, and Leadership Development.
