Are you considering a career in the mining industry?

Sumitomo Metal Mining Oceania and Northparkes Mines invite eligible students in years 11 and 12 to apply for the 2018 Sumitomo Metal Mining Oceania Scholarship.

This program is designed to attract and retain senior secondary students who are interested in a career in the mining industry. Through funding and work placements Northparkes Mines enables students to have an insight into what it could be like to work in the mining industry.

Sumitomo Metal Mining Oceania Scholarship recipients will receive an award of:
  • $500 for successful completion of Year 11,
  • $1,000 for successful completion of Year 12 and
  • $2,000 for students who go on to successfully complete their first year in an undergraduate mining related course at university.
As part of the Sumitomo Metal Mining Oceania Scholarship, Northparkes encourages scholarship holders to participate in mining related activities each year. The scholarship will open up opportunities for work experience and work placement during university holidays which is invaluable for when you graduate.  

Sumitomo Metal Mining Oceania Scholarship Eligibility Criteria:

1) Students must be enrolled at a high school within the Parkes or Forbes Local Government Areas and maintain a set pattern of study with satisfactory academic results.

2) To be eligible to extend the scholarship from Year 11 to Year 12, scholarship holders must demonstrate an interest in the mining industry through either work experience, or attendance at a mining related conference, careers expo, university open day, mentoring program or Northparkes Mines sponsored event.

3) To be eligible to extend the scholarship post Year 12, students must enrol in and satisfactorily complete, their first year of an Undergraduate mining/minerals related degree.

4) Applications must include the name and contact details of a teacher at the student's school who will be contacted to obtain a reference check. Applications without these details will not be considered.
