Union County is conducting a survey to get input  regarding housing and non-housing needs for low and moderate income residents residing in the Towns of Marshville, Monroe, Stallings, Waxhaw, Wingate and Weddington and in the unincorporated areas of the County. The County must consult with public and private agencies that provide housing assistance, health services, social and fair housing services, including services to children, elderly persons, homeless persons, persons with disabilities, persons with HIV/AIDS and their families. This will help guide the County in deciding how to allocate entitlement grant funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program that are to be used to benefit primarily low and moderate income persons. Priority needs, strategies, and ways to measure progress will be included in the County’s Five Year Consolidated Plan, which will be submitted to HUD. HUD specifies three statutory program goals for the Consolidated Plan, to provide:

1. Decent Housing
2. Suitable Living Environment
3. Expanded Economic Opportunities
