Leading from the Middle Academy Background

The 2017 LFM Academy will focus on:
  • Training leaders in (1) the methods of inquiry and the use of data to inform improvements, and (2) the application of planning and design strategies to promote the coordination of all systemwide initiatives including equity, student success, basic skills reform, and professional development
  • Developing leadership capacity for the implementation of specific approaches for advancing student success and completion through integration and coordination of the delivery of education in the classroom and education services throughout the institution
The full Academy program runs February – October 2017 and includes three face-to-face meetings, a series of online activities, and support from a peer-coaching network. In addition, participants will have reading assignments and will be asked to conduct a project that applies leadership principles to an implementation project addressing one or more of the LFM above-mentioned foci at the participants’ institution.

Ideally, each application will include a team of three people, with one representative from each of the following roles:
  • A faculty member or student services professional (classroom instructions, academic support staff, librarians, counselors)
  • A middle level leader (dean, department chair, program director or coordinator, Academic Senate leader)
  • A researcher (either from the IRP department or someone with a strong research or assessment background)
On the next page, please list the primary contact for the team as the first team member.

The cost for the Academy is $1,000 per person (reduced from $2,700 due to a generous award from the CCCCO Institutional Effectiveness Partnership Initiative (IEPI)), which includes lodging and food for the three face-to-face gatherings.

The application deadline has been extended to December 1, 2016.
