Introduction

INTRODUCTION:
NPEA Data Counts is a collective impact data project aimed at providing best practices, research, and resources around data collection in the educational access field.

Ranging from formative assessment that continually strengthens programming to reporting required for funding support, qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis is critical to the work of best supporting underrepresented students. As nonprofits and school-based programs set up their data systems, many reach out to NPEA for best practices regarding what to measure and why, common terms and definitions, indicator benchmarks, and the ability to demonstrate collective impact across the field.

To meet these needs, NPEA embarked on a yearlong, research-based project funded by The Esther A. & Joseph Klingenstein Fund. This project, NPEA Data Counts, identified ten key indicators of college access and success for underrepresented students from elementary school through college graduation. These ten indicators are ones NPEA feels are important for organizations serving underrepresented students to track in order to ensure the most effective services are delivered and students are on the path to persist through college.

While important on an individual level for members, consistent tracking and reporting on these indicators in the aggregate can help tell a broader story of the valuable work our members are doing to support students in the field of college access and success.

We encourage members to collect information on the ten indicators and share the data with NPEA through this Data Collection Tool, so we may in turn share the collective impact of this important work with you, your constituents, and the broader field.

The Tool is organized into sections that represent each of the 10 indicators. In each section, we provide specific descriptions of the numbers we are asking you to report for your program.

Please know that the data you report will not be shared or connected to your program in any way. Results will be analyzed by NPEA staff, and will only be reported in aggregate.
