Introduction

The shared goal of providing a professional level of search assistance is stated in the Best Practices for 24/7 Reference Cooperative Sessions document, available on the My QuestionPoint homepage.

Librarians participating in the QuestionPoint 24/7 Cooperative strive for around-the-clock high quality and consistency of service. Since QuestionPoint 24/7 librarians do not have access to commonly-used databases (such as EBSCO Academic Search and ProQuest Central) and Cooperative librarians may not have access to the same databases as the users they are assisting, many libraries provide "proxy librarian" database access on the password-protected policy page. This database access is valuable because it promotes equality of service for all patrons, even when their local librarians are not online.  From its inception, the 24/7 Reference Cooperative has found that when librarians are given access to member libraries' subscription databases during live chat sessions, the Cooperative and 24/7 librarians can help each other in the best possible ways and provide the outstanding quality of service that our users expect.

NOTE: For the purposes of this survey, the term "coop librarians" refers to the staff who assist your patrons as a ‘proxy’ for your librarians, including those who contribute hours to the cooperative, as well as the 24/7 QuestionPoint staff librarians.
