The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) Board of Directors is seeking qualified applicants for its Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC). The 34-member CAC is tasked with providing input and advice on transportation projects, studies and outreach activities. CAC members serve two-year terms. Members are appointed by the Board of Directors and must live in Orange County. OCTA is looking for individuals with:

Community involvement – must represent group(s) with an active membership/constituency
A demonstrated interest in community activities and transportation issues
Willingness to dedicate no fewer than 20 hours per year to OCTA meetings/activities

What is the Orange County Transportation Authority?

OCTA is a countywide transportation agency that works with state and local officials, community groups, businesses and other regional transportation agencies to coordinate a unified effort to identify, fund and implement local transportation solutions. OCTA is governed by a 17-member Board of Directors comprised of the five county supervisors, city council representatives from across the county and two public members.
Transportation plays a large role in Orange County’s quality of life and economy. OCTA is involved in all aspects of providing a comprehensive transportation system for Orange County commuters, including:

Implementing Measure M, Orange County's local 1/2 cent transportation sales tax
Running the nation’s 12th busiest bus system
Widening freeways
Improving streets and highways
Synchronizing traffic lights
Funding Metrolink commuter-rail service
Operating the 91 Express Lanes
Developing and implementing long-range transportation solutions

Responsibilities of the OCTA Citizens Advisory Committee

OCTA’s CAC members participate in helping to examine traffic solutions, providing input to OCTA’s transportation studies and communicating with their constituencies. During the year, committee members are asked to participate in ad hoc committees, in roundtable discussions and hear special presentations on various transportation projects, programs and services. This is an unpaid volunteer position, and meetings adhere to the Brown Act. The committee’s responsibilities include:

Identify opportunities for community input
Recommend mechanisms and methodologies for obtaining public opinion on specific transportation issues
Serve as a liaison between the public and OCTA
Comment on significant transportation issues and suggest possible ideas and solutions
