Our 10th PenCHORD Seminar, Showcase and Workshop event will take place on 29th April 2015 at the University of Exeter. We are delighted to confirm that Ralph Boyce (Director of S and B MI Ltd) and Dr Ed Wallington (Health and Social Care Lead, ESRI UK) will be speaking at our event. They will be talking about the power of analytics to provide business intelligence and inform decision making, and the role of using software to visualise and make sense of “big data”. We will also be hosting a PenCHORD Showcase session, in which the PenCHORD team will present some of their current and recent work in the local area.

In addition, Dr Navonil Mustafee (Senior Lecturer in Supply Chain Management, University of Exeter Business School) will be running an interactive workshop session in the afternoon entitled “The Blood Supply Chain Game”. This Excel-based multiplayer game uses the example of the supply chain of blood units from donors to patients to demonstrate the decision-making needed in a supply chain for perishable items.

The itinerary for the day will be as follows :

0900-0930 Arrival (Tea and Coffee)
0930-0945 Welcome (Dr Daniel Chalk)
0945-1045 PenCHORD Seminar : Analytics and Big Data (Ralph Boyce and Dr Ed Wallington)
1045-1115 Break (Tea and Coffee)
1115-1230 PenCHORD Showcase (PenCHORD Team)
1230-1330 Lunch
1330-1530 PenCHORD Workshop : The Blood Supply Chain Game (Dr Navonil Mustafee)

As always, attendance at this event is free of charge, but we do ask you to register for this event for catering purposes. We also ask that you provide us with at least one week’s notice if you are unable to attend, as late cancellations and non-attendance can result in us incurring significant wasted costs.

Please contact penchord@exeter.ac.uk should you have any queries.

Thank you for your time, and we look forward to seeing you in April.
