A good mentor can shape a person’s entire career. Mentors and advocates are especially important for people from underrepresented groups (women, racial and ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, LGBTQ communities, etc.), who face unique challenges on top of the day-to-day workplace obstacles.

Do your employees feel like they have mentors available to them? Would they like them? Would they like to be mentors themselves? This survey will help you assess the needs of your workforce and decide if and when you might want to put a new mentorship program in place.

You might also consider pairing sponsors with mentees from within their underrepresented community, if it’s something your people are interested in. Hint: this is a great way to keep employees supported and show them they have a path forward at your organization.

  • Whether employees have existing mentors inside or outside of the company
  • Whether there is demand for mentorship within underrepresented communities
  • Which communities exist in your company already
  • Whether there is opportunity for fresh advocacy programs

Diversity and Inclusion doesn’t just mean hitting hiring numbers—it also means creating structures that support and empower your diverse candidates once they’re onboard. Mentorship and advocacy is a powerful way to do that.
