The Role

Our team leverages SurveyMonkey’s core survey platform to power SurveyMonkey Audience. SurveyMonkey Audience is a unique self-serve product, disrupting the market research space.  It allows small businesses and Fortune 500 companies to quickly and affordably get feedback from real customers around the world. Our platform finds and matches survey takers to potential surveys based on demographic search criteria in real time. Anyone can sign up to take surveys and we donate money to charity for each survey completed. Since launching, we’ve donated over $12 million dollars to charity.


We’re looking for an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead our Audience Platform engineering team in downtown Seattle. The team is responsible for the platform that SurveyMonkey Audience is built on, supporting the buyer and panelist experiences. They will partner closely with our other Audience teams in Portland, building the next generation market research platform to reach broader audiences, shorten the project turnaround time, and improve the tools our customers use to choose and purchase panels.



  • Growing and managing a small team of engineers
  • Build and maintain infrastructure to support a high-traffic website, writing tools and apps predominantly written in Python with Pyramid as the framework
  • Top-to-bottom ownership of new features, including crafting technical specs, writing readable and extensible code, and keeping tabs on post-release metrics
  • Collaboration with other engineering leads and cross-functional teams in Product, Marketing and Design
  • Focus on providing high up-time and metric-driven optimization.
  • Help grow SurveyMonkey Audience in new markets (international) and devices (mobile)



  • 2+ years experience leading an engineering team
  • 7+ years of software development experience
  • In-depth, hands-on knowledge of Python and experience working with the relevant tools
  • Experience with web frameworks and libraries in Python (Pyramid, Django), or other language (Ruby on Rails)
  • Able to write efficient SQL queries and design schemas for relational databases
  • Culture of code reviews, writing tech specs, and collaborating closely with other people
  • Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent
  • Preferred experience: experience with AWS, monitoring tools (such as DataDog, New Relic), distributed queuing systems (such as RabbitMQ, Kafka), Solr search
