The Role

We are in the process of reimagining our Survey Analysis tools and that includes a full revamp of our whole Data Visualization approach for it. We are looking for a Staff Front-end and Data Visualization engineer that can help us design, shape, create and implement our new dataviz toolkit, as well as define the best strategies and practices to build scalable data visualization and presentation solutions combining the right front end frameworks and libraries.

Responsibilities

  • Be a strong technical leader for the development of analysis and presentation products
  • Be a key player in the definition and implementation of the SurveyMonkey data visualization approach to our tools and products.
  • Technical Leadership of development projects that involve people from multiple disciplines and teams across the company, setting a clear technical direction and building consensus along the way.
  • Mentor other frontend engineers in the development of scalable web products and modern CSS best practices.
  • Design and build data visualizations for a wide range of users and levels of expertise.
  • Implement library of common charts and graphs for wide company use.
  • Create interactive visualizations for geographical data, timelines, and metadata.
  • Gather product and requirements and produce technical specs for feature development
  • Provide an engineering and data visualization perspective to design reviews
  • Drive development of best practices for front end and data visualization

 

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional and large scale front end product development
  • 6+ years of building data visualization products for large scale platforms
  • Master’s degree in CS or equivalent experience.
  • Strong knowledge and expertise in Data Visualization theory and principles of visual display of information and cognitive science
  • Experience and deep understanding of d3.js, highcharts.js or other web graphic/charting libraries.
  • Experience with javascript frameworks and technologies like React.js, node.js, or backbone.js.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with HTML, CSS, including HTML5, CSS3, and upcoming HTML APIs.
  • Expertise in CSS, knowledge of common CSS architectures (OOCSS, SMACSS, BEM, etc) and CSS preprocessors (Sass, Less CSS, etc)
  • You have a strong sense for User Experience design and development
  • You are great at context switching and working with designers, engineers and product at any given time.
  • Experience leading feature development projects end-to-end, from ideation to implementation and deployment.
  • People person who likes to work with others and values team over individual.

 

Desired Skills

  • Understanding of motion in the context of data visualization as a support tool for data analysis and pattern recognition
  • Up-to-date expertise in human-centered design best practices
  • Knowledge of responsive web design and mobile best practices
  • Open source contributions
