The Role

Our UI Platform team is growing! UX Engineer, Front-End Developer, Design Technologist, Hybrid Developer/Designer, Design Systems Engineer  — If any of these job titles resonate with you, you might just be the perfect fit to join the design systems team at SurveyMonkey. Over the past year, we have been developing our next generation UI library, and as we continue to evolve, we are looking for someone who can help us empower our teams to build innovative, engaging designs at scale. You must be comfortable living in both the design and engineering worlds and actively seek to bridge the two.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work with designers to capture design intention behind design patterns.
  • Collaborate with Engineers to properly incorporate CSS/JS components into their workflow.
  • Mentor Engineers on modern CSS best practices.
  • Pair with other engineers to inform the HTML/CSS/JS component API's
  • Mentor designers to craft patterns, identify, and implement components into their workflow.
  • Provide an engineering perspective to design reviews
  • Refactor large SCSS codebases with the best practices

 

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional Design and Frontend experience
  • Strong knowledge and experience with HTML, CSS, including HTML5, CSS3, and upcoming HTML APIs
  • Expertise in CSS, knowledge of common CSS architectures (OOCSS, SMACSS, BEM, etc) and CSS preprocessors (Sass, Less CSS, etc)
  • Expertise knowledge of responsive web design and mobile best practices
  • Up-to-date expertise in human-centered design best practices
  • Open Source Experience
  • You have a strong foundation in User Experience design and Front-End engineering
  • You communicate well with both designers and engineers, and receive feedback openly
  • Ability to visualize and prototype intended solutions at various levels of fidelity including high-level prototypes, conceptual presentations, and production-quality code
  • Knowledge of the DOM, DOM events, or event binding
  • Support and working knowledge of BEM and SASS
  • Expert in Sketch and Zeplin

 

Desired Skills

  • Flexbox
  • "Motion" Tools (Animations, Transitions, Keyframes, Bounce.js, etc) and the ability to create animations that evoke feeling rather than being the primary focus.
  • React
  • Open Source Contributions
  • Prototyping, Persona Creation and other UX-Focused skills
  • Strong desire to write Sketch plugins
