New Year’s Resolutions: Have You Kept Yours So Far?

New Year’s Resolutions: Have You Kept Yours So Far?

Where or where does the time go? We here at SurveyMonkey can’t believe that we’re already coming up on the third week of 2013. Naturally, being the curious monkeys that we are, we wanted to know all about your New Year’s Resolutions and see how they’re going for you so far.

So how would we do that? Well, with a survey of course! Nearly 5000 people have already responded to our ongoing New Year’s survey from this month’s *Newsletter and we thought now was as good a time as any to share some of the results that have been pouring in.

Check out what we’ve learned so far:

Vowing to lose some of those hard-earned holiday pounds continues to be a time-honored tradition with New Year’s Resolutions and this year has proved to be no different. Over 15% of respondents fall into this category with exercising regularly coming in at a close 14%. Luckily, dieting and committing to those punishing P90X workouts aren’t the only thing on folks’ to-do lists however- another 14% of people say they’d like to learn something new.

A new year means a fresh start and for many of us that means de-cluttering and getting organized. A healthy 12% of respondents are vowing to accomplish this in 2013 along with spending more time with friends and family (9%). Rounding out the bottom three? Taking the time to do something nice for oneself (6%), volunteering more (4%) and coming in dead last- disconnecting from technology. Those tablets, laptops and smartphones that people may have received this holiday season don’t look to be getting a break anytime soon this year!

Congratulations! The overwhelming majority are proud to say that they’re still going strong with their resolutions a week into the new year at 73%. For the few that have faltered thus far, determination blazes bright with 13% saying they’ll be back at it tomorrow with pretty much nobody giving up for the year (6%)- that’s the spirit! At this rate, with a little over two weeks left in January, we have a pretty strong hunch that keeping up with resolutions for folks is gonna be a breeze.

And of course we couldn’t let a New Year’s survey go out without a question about surveys:

37% of respondents declare that they will be sure to establish their survey’s goals before sending them out and we couldn’t agree more. Designing and administering the most effective surveys means making sure you know what your survey’s purpose is. What do you want to find out from your respondents? How do you make sure that your results are as useful to you as possible? Don’t forget- in addition to our blog, we’ve got all kinds of tips and insights on creating the best surveys at our awesome Help Center.

Last, but certainly not least, all of us here at SurveyMonkey are committed to making your survey design experience the best that it can be. Our 2013 New Year’s Resolution is to help all of you make even better decisions with your surveys.

Be sure to share in the comments below or feel free to send us a note to and tell us- What can we do better to help you? What additional features would help improve your experience? What would you like to see more of from us this year?

Apparently only one person’s resolution was to not answer survey questions.
