trump approval ratings july 28 2017SurveyMonkey’s weekly polling (ending Thursday July 27) finds 39 percent of adults nationwide approve of the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president and 58 percent disapprove. That result represents a three percentage point decline in the approval percentage (from 42 percent) and the first time that Trump’s approval rating has fallen below the 40-percent level since our tracking began in late January.

Trump’s disapproval rating this week (58 percent) is a percentage point higher than the previous week and matches a previous high recorded in mid-May.

Trump’s approval rating decline was greatest over the past week among moderate to liberal Republicans and Republican leaning independents, 67 percent of whom now approve of his performance, while 32 percent disapprove. That’s a decline from 75 percent approve, 24 percent disapprove over the last two weeks, and the first time Trump’s approval has fallen below 72 percent among moderate/liberal Republicans.

“Health care” clicks up a point over the past week (from 29 to 30 percent) as the selected issue that matters most to Americans, matching the previous high recorded at the end of June. Selections of health care have been nominally higher than “jobs and the economy” (now at 26 percent) for the past five weeks.
