Monkeys at TechCrunch Moscow 2013!

Monkeys at TechCrunch Moscow 2013!

TechCrunch Moscow*Privet!

Our Business Development monkeys recently returned from beautiful Russia for TechCrunch Moscow 2013. Although some are getting over their jet lag a little quicker than others, all of them came back to the office super pumped about the experience and excited about the Russian startup community. SurveyMonkey had the special pleasure this year of partnering with Digital October for this all-things-tech event themed, “Innovation Detox.”

TechCrunch Moscow was part technology conference featuring prominent speakers from the industry, and part demo day with nearly 40 startups from all over Russia pitching their ideas.

There was a range of innovation present, like the technology created by the startup, MediaGloves–users can interact with touch screens while wearing, yep, gloves. We were also quite impressed with Looky–a social TV guide and content recommendation engine.

On the first day, the start-ups did three-minute pitches and judges selected five finalists to do an additional presentation the next day. Attendees also voted on their favorite start-up via a SurveyMonkey poll. The winner of the popular vote was also given a finalist spot and the opportunity to do one more presentation.

First place went to DreamRoomer, a site that lets landlords seek out their ideal tenants, instead of the other way around. Second place? Medesk–a cloud healthcare platform that captures and securely stores patient medical data from any source or provider in order to integrate healthcare delivery. Both teams won tickets to TechCrunch’s Disrupt NY 2014 conference in The Big Apple.

Sharing some of our latest news was also part of the trip and Damon Cronkey, our VP of Business Development, participated in a panel discussion to talk about the Monkey’s plans for expansion into Russia. He was joined by executives from Google and the travel site, Kayak. Damon also talked about our previous efforts such as translating our site into Russian, offering prices in Rubles, and our future plans for making the sign-up process with SurveyMonkey even easier for Russian businesses.

We also had the opportunity to meet some of our Russian customers face-to-face (always a pleasure!) like Freetopay,,, Ostrovok and Wikimart just to name a few. It was great to hear how these teams are using SurveyMonkey to make smart business decisions. Besides using online surveys to collect customer feedback, they also love relying on us for collecting employee insights and event planning.

All in all, it was a fantastic trip and the team enjoyed it immensely. We’ll be focusing more on the Russian market going forward, so keep an eye out for even more great things to come–**spasibo!

**Thank you!
