SurveyMonkey Research at AAPOR 2015 Conference

SurveyMonkey Research monkeysThe Survey Research team at SurveyMonkey packed their bags and flew across the country last month to attend the American Association of Public Opinion Research’s (AAPOR) Annual Conference in Hollywood, Florida.

AAPOR is the premier organization for survey research experts, folks who live and breathe surveys every day. Interested in how to conduct a mixed-mode survey? How about learning new techniques for adjusting non-probability samples? Or maybe testing race of interviewer effects is your cup of tea.

These are just a sampling of the topics that were presented at AAPOR this year. More than 1100 survey nerds joined me and the SurveyMonkey research team in Florida. We promise it wasn’t all sun, sand, and data revelry.

We contributed to the research presented at AAPOR (eight presentations!) including an overview of our successful election prediction data from the U.S. Elections in November 2014 and the debut of data gathered from our partnership with the Pew Research Center and Westat.

But presenting (and partying) weren’t the only things we were up to over at AAPOR—many of us also volunteer for the organization. Our VP of Survey Research, Jon Cohen, serves on the Communications Committee and is on the advisory board for Survey Practice, an online journal for the latest innovations in survey research.

One of our survey scientists (and bloggers) also serves as an Associate Editor for the journal. I had the opportunity to help organize the short courses at the conference and transitioned the short course evaluations from a paper and pencil survey, over to online surveys. Win-win for everyone.

Lastly, we met many fun and interesting researchers who we’re itching to collaborate with. Keep your eyes peeled here on the blog for the wrap-up on some of our presentations at AAPOR and also for new and exciting research partners!
