Read Responses To Your Heart’s Content

You asked, and we built it.  You can now download all open-ended survey responses into a PDF document that you can print, read, and share.  We know first hand the gems of insight you gain when your respondents give you feedback, in their own words.  Now, you can cozy up with a mug of cocoa, PDF print-out of responses in hand, and read away.

You can find this new option on the “Analyze Results” tab in My Surveys:

  • Choose “Download Responses” on the left hand side of the page.
  • Select “Summary Report” with the option to include all open-ended responses checked.
  • Choose “PDF Format” and voila, you’re all set.

I have already used this feature this week to share evaluation results. Thank you for including the open ended responses in the PDF form download. I also noticed that the question title repeats if responses go over several pages in the PDF — nice work!

    1. Charles Amos says:

I really like this addition, I was actually just going to send this in as a suggestion :)

Our site does a lot of hardy copy surveys, so we love the option to download a hard copy of the survey. However, entereing hundreds of hard copy forms onto the website can be time consuming as we need to click to add another survey each time we enter results. We would love to see functionality that allows us to mass upload in a spreadsheet like format or some other solution!

    2. Anne R says:

Cheryl–so glad you like it and have already used it!

  2. Connie says:

I’m glad for the added feature. It would be perfect though if the open ended answers printed in order with the multiple choice and other questions rather than going through the list of questions, then going through them a second time with the open ended responses. They should mesh.

  3. Brian says:

I agree with Connie. It would be perfect if all of the questions appeared in the correct order.

  4. Emma says:

A fanastic feature – couldn’t do without it, so thanks for responding to customer feedback (taken from our open-ended responses I assume).

  5. Sam says:

Great feature, I’ve been waiting for you guys to add that in!

  6. Tim CH says:

Connie & Brian – we would prefer to have the responses grouped with the questions too, however it is a limitation of our PDF exporter that we can’t just yet. It’s something we’re working on, and we’ll keep you updated as we continue to make improvements.

  7. Janice says:

    Awesome! Thanks for listening

  8. Chris Girard says:

Thank you for making this improvement. It will definitely be useful.

“and viola, you’re all set.” Is that a musical instrument?

    Ooooh, you mean “voilà”.

    1. Anne R says:

Thanks, Chris! And thanks for catching a little typo in the post–we fixed it :)

  9. Tya Bolton says:

Oh, thank goodness. This is going to be so useful when pulling reports! It wasn’t always feasible to have to pull the open-ended responses in Excel. Thanks much!

    1. Anne R says:

Tya–so glad this is going to help in your reporting!

  10. This new feature is great, although I’ve noticed that the responses have a tendency to overprint the page number or run off the end of the page in the pdf.

    1. Anne R says:

Phil–thanks for the feedback. We’ll look into the overprinting issue and see what we can do to fix.

  11. Excellent – it will save us a good deal of work – now all we need is for the the open-ended responses to be directly attached to their questions and statistical counterparts and we will have reports that can be presented to meeting directly. Any chance?
But for a start, this is great.

  12. Debbie Naglieri-Prescod says:

All I can say is, “thank you, thank you, thank you”! You don’t know how much of an improvement this is!

    1. Anne R says:

      Debbie–you’re so welcome! We’re happy that you’re happy :)

  13. Tina says:

I was very excited to hear this, but then a little disappointed when the comments came at the end of the report rather than with each question.

    1. Anne R says:

Hi Tina–thanks for your feedback. We appreciate hearing how we can improve this feature going forward.

  14. Jude Kaye says:

I like this feature, but wish that you also would give a choice: “download” to a Word Document, allowing me to EASILY edit out inappropriate comments or choose a sampling of comments. Is there any other way to EASILY do this?

    1. Anne R says:

Hi Jude–thanks for the feedback and suggestion on downloading to Word. Right now, you can download to Excel and edit out inappropriate comments. You can also try our new Text Analysis feature, which lets you scan, categorize and filter on open-ended responses. That would allow you to choose a sample based on groupings you set up yourself.
