NBC News|SurveyMonkey poll: 2020 election issues

A new NBC News|SurveyMonkey poll finds 34 percent of people say they would vote for President Trump, if the general election were held today. Fewer—29 percent—would vote for the Democrat, "regardless of who they are." But, 17 percent of people say their vote depends on who the Democrats select as their nominee and 15 percent of people say they don't know who they would vote for, underlining the stakes involved in this year's Democratic primary contest.

Other issues polled:

  • 63 percent of people want to see a Medicare-for-all health care program as an alternative to private health insurance plans; 34 percent disagree
  • 58 percent of people believe the right to an abortion, as established in Roe v. Wade, should be upheld; 39 percent believe it should be overturned
  • 52 percent of people agree with the Green New Deal's attempts to address climate change; 42 percent disagree with the proposal
  • With more than a dozen declared or likely candidates in the Democratic field so far, most people say it doesn't matter whether the eventual Democratic nominee is a woman or a non-White candidate
