Fortune|SurveyMonkey poll: post-Iowa caucuses

Half of people in the U.S. (50%) say they have a negative impression of the 2020 Iowa Democratic caucuses, and the uncertainty that ensued there may have a lasting effect on confidence in the democratic process among the American public.

As a result of all this, 40% of Democrats now say Iowa should not maintain it's first-in-the-nation status in 2024, just 14% say it should, and 45% are unsure.

Among Democrats and Democratic leaners, 68% say they're confident in the ability of the primary process to select the best presidential candidate for their party. A large majority of Republicans (87%) say they are not confident in the Democrats' ability to select a candidate. A slight majority (55%) of independents also say they are not confident in the Democratic party's primary process to select the best presidential candidate.

Looking ahead, however, Republicans are heading into the general election brimming with confidence. More than eight in 10 Republicans and GOP leaners (82%) are confident in the presidential election system's ability to select the best candidate for the country. Democrats are pessimistic, with 64% saying they are not confident in the election process's ability to select the best president. Independents, too, lean towards a lack of confidence (57%).
