Make Your Survey Social with Our Facebook Collector

Facebook has revolutionized the way people connect with each other. And now it can revolutionize the way you collect data and make critical decisions about your business.  Facebook Collector—a new SurveyMonkey feature—allows you to socialize your survey. As Dr. Philip posted earlier, information gathered from social media can sometimes be ambiguous. But if you marry a survey with your social media audience, you can really make the most of both (and look kind of hip while doing it).  Just choose the Facebook Collector option…

And like your SurveyMonkey survey itself, you can make your Facebook Collector uniquely yours.  Customize your collector with an image and text…

Then invite your friends or fans to take your survey. Put it on your own news feed…

Click the “share” button below your survey to share it with your friends.

Or get fancy and send out your survey link with a Facebook ad, add it to your fan page or post it along with your event.  Then watch your survey exponentially take off. The more data you get, the better decision you can make.

It’s like the old ad says:  “They told two friends. Then they told two friends. And so on and so on and so on…”

So how exactly does this site work?
I am Samantha by the way.

    • Anne R

      Hi Samantha,
You can use SurveyMonkey to create surveys of any kind (you input the question and answer choices), and then send to your customers, friends, members of an organization, or anyone you’re trying to get feedback or information from. The Facebook collector is just one way to distribute your survey. You can also email a link or embed it on your blog. Let us know if you have other questions! (And thanks for the compliment on my status post :) )

Can I use the same survey in FB as well as embedded on a separate web page?

  • Lorien

Question! So this sounds like it’s integrating the survey directly on Facebook, which is great. Is there also a way for someone who is taking a feedback survey through Survey Monkey to maybe post a specific answer to FB and Twitter?

I’m thinking about testimonials. It would be super if we could make it easy for a survey-taker to not only share their great comments with us, but to pop them right over onto Facebook, too.

    • Hanna J

Hi Lorien – There is not at the moment a way to do this. However, we love the suggestion, and I’ve passed it along to our product team. Thank you for your feedback! Have a great day.

  • Kerry

This is such a great feature! My question is about the results – can they be private or are they out there for all of our Facebook fans to see? Thank you!

    • Hanna J

Hi Kerry – Your results can absolutely be private! They will be, unless you go into survey settings and change it to public. So you shouldn’t have any problems. Thanks, and have a great day.

  • Nick

I’d love to be able to use this widget to collect & PUBLISH testimonials to FB. The bonus of having a FB avatar next to a testimonial given by a customer would be awesome.

    • Hanna J

Hi Nick – We love that suggestions! Sounds like a great way to make our Facebook app even better suited for our customers’ needs. We might have to make you an honorary Monkey…I’ve passed your suggestion along to our product team. We’ll keep you posted. Thanks!

Is there a way to not show that you took the survey on your news feed? Also, is there a way to preserve the confidentiality of participants? Lastly, does the survey took prevent people from possibly taking the survey more than once? How is the data viewed? Does it list the participants name or does it randomly assign a ID# for each person who took the survey

        • Hanna J

          Hi Merissa,

Great questions! Allow us to try and answer them one by one.

          1. Regarding the news feed, you may need to contact Facebook customer support in order to find out if there is way to hide the post on your news feed. We do not have any control of that function since it is a Facebook function.
          2. Yes, you can configure the collector settings to allow only one response per person on the survey. Just go into the collect responses tab, and click “change settings” on the left side of the page.
          3. All of the responses will be found within your SurveyMonkey account. You would analyze these responses like you would with any of the other collection methods.
          4. Depending on how you have the survey set up will determine what tracking you have available to you.

Here are some links that will cover some of these answers in depth for you:

How to analyze your data tutorial.

Use a tracking method to see the names and/or email address of respondents.

Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks!
