Parents: Snow Day Solution Survey

1.

January has been unforgiving. On February 1, we find ourselves in the unenviable position of attempting to determine the best among several imperfect solutions for making up the missed days. There are several considerations. First, by state law, students must complete 180 school days by June 30. Second, the high school graduation date is currently set for June 23. Third, some families (and teachers) have standing plans for February and/or April vacation. Finally--and in some ways most important--the likelihood of accruing more snow days as February and March progress is strong. With all of these factors in mind, we ask you to respond to the six questions below by 8:00 AM, Thursday, February 3, 2011.
1. Which school does your child attend? If you have children in more than one school, please check all that apply.
2. Please rank the following snow day schedule adjustments in the order of your preference.
1st choice2nd choice3rd choice
Eliminate four days of February Break: Tuesday, 2/22, through Friday, 2/25
Eliminate four days of April Break: Monday, 4/18, through Thursday, 4/21
Add all snow days to the scheduled end of the school calendar
3. Do you have standing travel/vacation plans for February break? (This could include already-purchased airline or cruise tickets, hotel reservations, dated lift tickets, amusement park passes, etc.)
4. Do you have standing travel/vacation plans for April break? (This could include already-purchased airline or cruise tickets, hotel reservations, dated lift tickets, amusement park passes, etc.)
5. Do you have standing travel/vacation plans for the week of June 27? (This could include already-purchased airline or cruise tickets, hotel reservations, dated lift tickets, amusement park passes, etc.)
6. Are there any other factors we should consider in making our decision regarding the best way to make up school days missed for snow?
