Orphan works examples to help lobbying MPs on importance of orphan works legislation for museums
1. Reproducing orphan works
The House of Commons will be looking at the Digital Economy Bill which includes clauses allowing organisations like museums to apply for licences to use orphan works after due diligence has been carried out.
We need to lobby MPs to show them how responsibly museums handle orphan works and the diligent efforts we go to in order to find rights holders.
This survey aims to get real-life examples of orphan works, types of risk management efforts undertaken and risk assessed decisions taken. This follows on from the "In From the Cold" survey last year which looked at the number of orphan works, the types of works likely to be orphans and the fact that museums take an average of 1/2 day to trace a rights holder.
All answers can be anonymous - we will just ask you for the type of museum/organisation you work for.
