Rideal Travel Bursaries Application
1. Introduction
The Sir Eric Rideal Trust annually offers financial assistance to promising research workers in the general field of colloid and surface science to attend conferences and/or to visit relevant research institutions.
Applications for travel bursaries are invited from scientists in the early stages of their career, typically this will be between two and ten years of commencing PhD studies.
Preference will normally be given to those wishing to travel outside their country of residence, especially if they wish to work in a laboratory abroad. Awards of up to £400 will be made, on a competitive basis, to assist with travel and/or subsistence and/or conference registration fees.
Payment of the Award will be made only on receipt of a report on the conference/visit and will be treated as part-reimbursement of travel expenses, so receipts as proof of travel will also be required.
There are two deadlines, 15th April (for travel between 1st July - 31st December) and 15th October (for travel between 1st January - 30th June). Bursary recipients are selected shortly after the closing dates, and applicants notified of the results within a month of the closing date.Valid applications must be accompanied by two (2) reference letters, which must be submitted electronically to awards@soci.org.
