Southeast Welland Recreational Needs Assessment
Background Information
The goal of this survey is to learn more about the recreational habits and preferences of residents in Southeast Welland.
The survey concerns residents living in the area bounded to the north by Lincoln Street, to the south by Humberstone Road, to the east by the Welland By-Pass ("New" Welland Canal) and to the west by the Recreational ("Old") Welland Canal. If you live in this area, please read on.
In this survey, we define "recreational activities" as activities that get people to move their bodies.
Indoor recreation includes individual and group activities taking place in sports complexes, schools, halls, gymnasiums and theatres. For example a fitness class, a dance class, swimming laps alone, or walking in the Seaway mall for exercise.
Outdoor recreational activities are those that take place outside buildings in a fresh air environment. These may or may not involve organized competition or formal rules, can be individual or group activities, and can use specialized infrastructure or none at all. For example, a morning walk, run or bicycle ride in your neighbourhood using sidewalks, an organized club soccer game, skating on an outdoor rink or swimming in an outdoor public pool.
The results of this survey will inform a Community Recreational Needs Assessment being undertaken by undergraduate students enrolled in the course "RECL 4P05 - Community Recreation Planning" at Brock University. The results will be shared with the City of Welland and community agencies who provide recreational programming. Thank you for taking the time to share this information with us.
